The Kareng Fund is an Emergency Relief Fund set up to help low-income, self employed artisans and their families in Oregon if they are experiencing a serious crisis.
We pronounce it Caring Fund.
If you are a selfemployed Oregon artisan experiencing a career threatening crisis, the Kareng Fund can be part of your safety net. Named for two Saturday Market craftspeople, the Kareng Fund was started in 2003 to help those in circumstances that threaten their ability to work as artisans. Grants of up to $1000 help pay bills related to health issues, loss of mobility or safety, and other unexpected hardships. Applications are simple and require only your membership in a craft organization, such as Saturday Market or Oregon Country Fair, and income equal to or less than 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines for your family size.
Over the last decade the fund has given more than $45,000 in small grants to dozens of artists, all from funds donated by their fellow crafters and supporters.
